WCF’s – Groups A and B (Match 2)

Germany left it very late before finally beating Poland 1-0. Polish keeper Boruc made several fine saves and Germany battered the woodwork before Neuville’s dramatic winner. The Poles were a major disappointment to their fantastic support. Indeed, the atmosphere at the match was the highlight of the tournament so far. Ecuador dispatched Costa Rica 3-0 in the other match. This means they, along with Germany, are guaranteed a place in the second round before the two sides meet. Interestingly, a draw would mean Ecuador would win the group, setting up an interesting final match in Group B. England were awful against Trinidad and Tobago. A last gap clearance by Terry and some awful decision making by Glenn kept the score blank before two late strikes saw England through. Contrary to the jingoistic nonsense on ITV, T+T should’ve won, yet England are through with two unconvincing wins and Rooney is fit again. A late Ljundberg goal saw Sweden past Paraguay 1-0, eliminating the South Americans. A win for Sweden against England would see them top the group but, depending on the early kick off in Group A, both sides may play to avoid the Germans. Sweden have disappointed and need Ibrahimovic back from injury to help an ageing Larsson up front. Regular readers of my column (yes, you two again…) will be pleased to know that Kallstrom was as good as advertised, and must start the next match. Lest we forget, T+T are still in the mix to qualify, if they beat doomed Paraguay and England win. That would be a major upset from the smallest nation ever to play in the World Cup Finals.

  1. Terry’s back must be killing him after carrying that lot for 90 minutes. Susan’s father’s day present, a T&T flag which I hung out of her bedroom window, nearly worked!

  2. There's only one sno ?who the feck Says:
