Remember watching this years ago and, while browsing on Amazon, decided to rent it.  Magic stuff; needless to say, The Legend (a first-timer, not often that’s said) is hooked.  Always good to continue his Leg-ucation and, hopefully, reach some sort of cultural refinement.  Who knows, one day The Legend may even be declared fit for decent society!

We can always dream.  In the meantime, The Legend just recycles my patter and tastes to others, passing them off as The Legend’s own.  Imitation, as they say…

The Wire (again!)

Q+A with creator David Simon.

Good stuff, as ever.  Simon never holds back and often gives an unfavourable impression of himself.  Which I like.  Also, the documentaries / interviews on the DVD box-sets are actually worth watching!  Chalk up another point for The Wire!

The Chronicles – Prop Joe, Omar et al!

Ian Bell

Ian Bell’s Saturday Essay.

Good stuff, the sly digs at England-shire are always welcome.  For the life of me, I can’t work out why the French voted in that short-arsed right-wing rat.  The right think (rightly) he’s a back-stabber and the left think (rightly) that he’s an overly zealous, reform-obsessed fascist.  Oh, wait.  That’s why Broon likes him.

He has an eye for foxy wives, I’ll give him that.  Maybe a union of sorts with Mme Royal could’ve happened, after all.  Fnarr, fnarr…

It’s also worth searching today’s Herald for the story on JK Rowling’s prison visits to encourage literacy.  Reasonably nice story, but the comments are (on both sides) predictable and hilarious.

Another great anniversary!

…here’s Ian Bell.

By the way, I have an interview today for a contract change at work.  Needless to say, the manager is a Celtic season-ticket holder, who actually went to the game last night.  Fuck it, it was worth it!

They’ll say anything…

…why does nobody EVER call them on it?

David Cameron tries to rewrite UK music history.

Still, here’s Weller’s quote (the man who wrote “Eton Rifles”!);

When I mention his residual feelings about the long years of Thatcherism, however, out it all comes. “I think they were absolute fucking scum – especially Thatcher, who I think should be shot as a traitor to the people. I still think that, and nothing will ever change my opinion. We’re still feeling the effects of what they did to the country now, and probably always will: the whole breakdown of communities, trade unions, the working class – the dismantling of lots of things.”

I suppose it’s up to the songwriter to put the important things succinctly, isn’t it?  In all seriousness (and I realise, in the great scheme of things, this may seem excessive), if Cameron ever does claim The Smiths as his own, I will torture and kill him myself.
