Bless You, Mr Simon!

Currently re-reading David Simon’s Homicide. Fantastic. I feel jealous of people just starting to watch The Wire. There’s been nothing to touch it.

Fortunately, Simon’s new show Treme is out in 2010, set in New Orleans, post-Katrina. I am very excited about this. HBO are also running Pacific, by the team who made Band of Brothers.

Perhaps even better though… I won’t spoil it, click the link!

The Wire gets it right again!

Watching the latest rounds of cuts at various newspapers reminded me of this story, which I  can’t remember if I posted, or not.

Here’s a page and a half. I presume that some (rightly) bitter American journo had some time on his / her hands, when coming up with this.

Maybe print media is on its arse, but I worry that the result will be a lack of quality information and debate. Newspapers made a huge mistake trying to match other media for instant news when the public still wanted (and trusted) in-depth analysis and comment.

Oh, well. I suppose there’s always the Daily Mail

Happy Birthday!

Denis Law is 70 today.

Only Scotsman to be European Footballer of the Year.

Only regret – never playing for his favourite team.

Favourite TV show – Trawlermen.

The one and only King of the Stretford End  we salute you!

Bertholt Brecht is killing me, hence the lack of updates.

So here’s an interesting blog (from an interesting blogger) about the legendary Slam nights at the Arches in Glasgow. I can say I was there!

Now, if only I could remember any of it…

High culture.

A Shakespearean version of one of the greatest films ever.

Speaking of the Cohen Brothers, I laughed out loud a few times at another of their films last night (while at Casa de Legendo), don’t know why I hadn’t seen it before?

A fine bunch of lads!

Are you one yet?

I wonder if the great man himself knew the purchaser here (check out the other items bought)?
